September 21st

By now, most clubs have had time to discuss and plan, for those that will be attending the up-coming D.L.C. As a reminder, the conference will take place at the Sertoma Youth Ranch on Saturday October 15 th. The session will start at 9:30 am and conclude close to 3:30 pm .

We are expecting that each club will have at least their four main officers and their new members in attendance. It is of utmost importance that these people be brought up to date on Sertoma’s latest policies, procedures and guidelines. We will also have speakers covering information from our state sponsorships. Those needing travel information can go the website for the Ranch, Sertoma Youth or contact me personally.

What I will need from you no later than FRIDAY, September 30, 2016 is a head count of those attending the conference. For obvious reasons, since we will be feeding everyone and I need an accurate account for the caterer.

As an additional reminder, since this an outdoor facility (covered), dress code for the event will be, VERY casual. The middle of October is usually still pretty warm. This pavilion has ceiling fans, and helps a lot.

Again, I’ll be waiting for your response by the 30 th.

Club Officers

Mark your calendars. We will be having a District Leadership Conference on October 15, 2016. The date is critical because two clubs will be having Oktober-Fests that month. One just before and one just after. It will be held at the Sertoma Youth Ranch near Dade City. There will be concert going on at one of the pavilions and we will be at the other. The morning sessions will be geared to the Sertoma Foundation, Sertoma Youth Ranch and to Camp Endeavor, The afternoon will be geared to officers and their club obligation. More details will follow as we get closer to that date. Now is the time to schedule all officers, new or potential officers and some older out of date members to be brought up to date. Tentative schedule will be, morning session from 9:30 till 12 (lunch) and the afternoon sessions from 1 till about 3:30. I’ll keep you posted.

As of today (7-29) there are still a few rooms available for the convention. They are on a first come first serve basis. If some of you have club members that needs to go, there are other hotels in Savannah. This will be the opportunity your club has to get those new officers trained. If you have questions about attending or getting registered, be sure to contact me. We don’t want anyone to miss out on this chance to attend.

There are still a few clubs that have not sent me their club roster with their current email address. Ron Bochenek is getting ready to send out our first quarterly newsletter. He can’t send it without an address. A lot of clubs have expressed that there is a lack of communication in the district. This is part of the solution. Please, if you haven’t, get it to me soon.

Hopefully everyone has gotten their end of year and quarterly reports and their dues payment made.

Hope to see all of you in Savannah,
Bud Osborn,  District Governor

To All Club Officers,

Sertoma National has a new hearing aid program.  Part of the program is to collect used hearing aides for reuse.  This is to remind you that we have our own Speech & Hearing Program here in Florida.  It operates through the Sertoma Speech & Hearing Foundation in New Port Richey (32 years).

The National program is geared for areas that DO-NOT have hearing aid programs. Hence the aids contributed from Florida would end up in other areas of the country.  While the new national program is great for those areas that  have no such programs, we don’t want to deny the support to our children and seniors. Please continue to collect used hearing aids for the S & H foundation in New Port Richey.

If you have any questions please get with about it.

We only have a couple of weeks until the end of the Sertoma calendar year. I need to remind you of a few club obligations that are due by the first of the month.

First, your club elections should be completed and your form # 130 sent to national with a copy to me.

Next your copy of your Sertoman of the Year and Service To Mankind winner’s bio needs to be sent to me also. Timing on these is very critical.

Last month I noted that a club picture needs to be sent to Ron Bochenek to help update the web site. He is still waiting on a few clubs to comply. (Send pictures to ) I’ve also requested that a list of all club members addresses and email address be sent to me. We are planning a quarterly newsletter to be sent to every Sertoman in the district.

There have been minimum clubs with convention registrations sent in. As I have been visiting clubs, a lot of people have indicated their intention to attend, but have not registered. It is important that we know these in advance so proper planning can be handled. A lot of important things need to be covered at the convention. Some of which include the election of the next Regional Director and a new Regional Treasurer. We also will be announcing the Regional winners of the Sertoman of the Year and Service to Mankind.

Below are listed some important addresses that you need to keep on record.

This year’s Convention: 2016 Sertoma Joint SEC / Atlantic Coast Regional Convention (This link will go to Convention Webpage)

District Website: or Ron Bochenek, 1252 Wild Turkey Ct Saint Johns, FL 32259 (904/237-1592)

Beverly Winesburgh, District Treasurer (407/257-1396) P.O. Box 160430 Altamonte Springs, FL 32716

Bud Osborn, District Governor (352/726-7805) 3355 S. College Ave, Inverness, FL 34452

I appreciate your help in getting these things done,

 1. Camp Endeavor is set to run for ONLY one week this year. Funding has been down so much that any more than one week was financially impossible. Camp will be from July 9 th Thru July 16 th. As usual there will be an appreciation show the morning of the last day. It would be great if as many Sertomans as possible would show up. If you do go, be sure to take a box of tissues.

2. The website for the regional convention is up and running. If you did not get the email about it, be sure to check that site. The dates are August 18/19/20. It will be in Savannah. That is about a four hour drive for most clubs.

3. By now all of the clubs should have completed their elections and send in their Form #130. There are still a few clubs from which I have not received there forms.

4. I’m going to try to make one more round of visits to each club before the end of the Sertoma calendar year (June 30 th.). I like to bring everyone up to date on the national "Hearing Aid Project". It consists of a program that involves the Kansas University School of Audiology and the development of Hearing Aid Bank. There will be an application process to find those that qualify. Evaluation of hearing loss will be done locally. Sertoma / Hearing Charities will recruit local audiologist to perform all local services. The "Project" in not quite finalized yet, but should be by the first of the Sertoma year. If your club has a successful program now, this will not interfere with it. As this new program gets closer to a startup date, I’ll get back with you.
